ROOTED
Real Workwear for Real Workers.
This collaboration will follow denim workwear designed and crafted here in the AMK atelier. Using iconic Cone Denim fabrics, and made for CSA Farmers located outside of Amsterdam, De Stadsgroenteboer.
Over the next year, we will follow the farmers and the rhythm of their daily tasks, guided by nature and the changing seasons. We will study the performance, and evolution of these garments throughout the year and be able to see the story they tell.
The project will be captured in short interviews that show the meaning of workwear through the eyes of real workers.​​

SEASONS
We are all ROOTED in something.
Cone Denim has been “Rooted” in workwear since 1891. Their first production of fabric was for workwear clothing and coveralls. Over 130 years later, Cone is still proudly supplying fabric to the Workwear market.
AMK atelier is rooted in designing and creating functional, and beautiful garments. In this project, we create tailor-made workwear for women with a vision to make them strong and supported by their garments to get the job done.
The farmers of De Stadsgroenteboer are deeply rooted in the seasons, following the journey from seed to harvest.
You will hear from each of the farmers about their growing season and how their workwear supports them.

SPRING
The project will be documented through a series of micro interviews to follow the process and show you the meaning of workwear through the lens of real workers. See our first videos, and meet the farmers!
THE FARM
On the western edge of Amsterdam, 5 farmers at de Stadsgroenteboer are growing over 50 different vegetables and more than 15 herbs for the local community and the members of their Community Supported Agriculture (CSA). Although the farm is quite small, they still produce a considerable amount of food using bio-intensive techniques.
At the same time, they are very conscious about keeping the soil fertile and healthy. They use compost, green manures, and other methods inspired by nature to not only maintain but actually improve the quality of the land.

Farming is hard work and it helps to be supported with the right equipment and clothing. With ROOTED, we created tailor-made denim workwear with a vision to support these farmers through their garments to get the job done. No detail is overlooked and we can’t wait to see how these custom garments benefit the various daily tasks and harvests over the year.
