DENIM DNA -
THE FULL STORY

COTTON

Cotton cultivation is where it all begins. This humble plant, with its fluffy white fibers, is carefully grown in fields across the globe. From the southern United States to the plains of India, cotton farming plays a vital role in many economies. We'll explore the agricultural practices involved in nurturing cotton plants, from planting seeds to harvesting the fluffy bolls.

INDIGO, FABRIC & MANUFACTURING

Cotton fibers undergo a series of intricate processes to transform into denim fabric. We'll delve into the weaving and dyeing techniques that give denim its characteristic strength and indigo blue. From traditional shuttle looms to modern machinery, the art of denim production has evolved over centuries, yet retains its timeless appeal.

CIRCULARITY

In the lecture, I explore alternative materials, highlighting that new circular fabrics represent the future of the denim industry. Our emphasis lies in crafting garments of exceptional quality, intended to endure for decades or be seamlessly upcycled into new products. It's about embracing sustainability and innovation to shape a brighter future for fashion.

WHAT IS DENIM &
WHAT IS JEANS?

Cotton, denim, and jeans - three elements intricately woven together to form a timeless narrative of craftsmanship, innovation, and style. As we reflect on their journey from seed to garment, let's also consider the impact of our choices on the environment and the communities involved in their production.

JEANS

The creation of iconic denim jeans. Born out of necessity for durable workwear, jeans have transcended their humble origins to become a global fashion staple. We'll uncover the cultural significance of jeans, from their association with rebellion and youth culture to their versatility in everyday fashion.

FABRIC, FIT & WASH

To craft a quality pair of jeans, understanding pattern drafting is essential to achieve the perfect fit, whether you're working with stretch or non-stretch fabrics. In the denim industry, the process of garment washing is a crucial technical step. Finding the right balance between fabric, fit, and wash is key to success in creating exceptional denim products.
