DESIGN -
MALIN DENIM

It's an absolute privilege to work with Malin. She has an incredible eye for detail and feminine shapes, as for vintage cut denims and functional garments. She has a deep knowledge of fabric and washes, that allows her to really envision the end product and brief thoroughly. Her creative process and particular way of working and creating women's wear has learnt me a great deal.

DESIGN & DEVELOPMENT

Malin has a range of denim projects and together we have created small capsule collections with a full package of samples, patterns and size specs. Malin also provides support with sourcing suppliers and fabric matching the capsule collections to her clients.

VINTAGE GARMENTS & AMK ARCHIVE

The styles and designs are often inspired from vintage garments and silhouettes. Ideas come from her vintage archive and current denim trends. Combined with the pattern archive in the AMK atelier we realize our desired collections for each project.

FITTING & BRIEF

Malin shares her ideas to me by sketches and pictures, and together we brainstorm about best fitting solutions for each design. We collect garments, drawings, pictures and potential materials that could be suitable for each designs. After the research we meet IRL or digitally to put it all together. We work with a model that we can dress and pin and pull on to get the right proportions.

PATTERN DRAFTING

After the design is set, I take all the information from the fittings to the drawing table and start drafting my CAD patterns in the computer. The fitting involves draping physical silhouettes, which are transferred into the digital pattern.

CUT & SEW FIRST PROTO

After all lines and shapes are matching and created in the computer, I plot the patterns in to marking paper and cut out the first proto. For our protos, we use fabric as similar as possible to what is used for the final collection in order to approve the styles in the right drape and fabric weight.

PROTO FITTING

The collection is made, and all garments are measured and crosschecked to the size specifications. At this stage everything is prepared for the proto fitting together with Malin. Again we ask our model to join us for the fitting to see if the created garments fits well and as we intended from the brief meeting. We always use real bodies for our fittings, this ensures us the quality in fit and designs.

ALTERNATIONS - PATTERN AND MATERIALS

After the fitting all patterns will be finalised, and small changes or updates will be altered from the fittings. The patterns are drafted in base size without seam allowance or shrinkage. This becomes the base for every supplier or brand to work with as a block.

FINAL SAMPLE COLLECTION

The final patterns are plotted in the atelier and the collection is ready to be cut out and sewn together there. All designs and samples are made by hand in the atelier by me, and each detail is carefully considered. Each sample is a one of a kind and can a reference for the brand or client to brief their clients or partners. We have used organic cotton in Ecru for all our designs as a natural base.

FOR PRODUCTION

MEASUREMENT LIST

Every design and style is delivered with garment measurements list for the garments in base sizes. Each detail is specified so the garments can be reproduced easily and a quality control can be done.

GRADED SIZE SPEC

All designs and measurement lists are created with a graded size spec matching the body standards from the client we work with. We can also advise and support the client on what size they should depart from, to create their collection for their specific market.

PATTERN  CAD - DXF

The patterns are delivered in as CAD-DXF patterns which is a universal format and supported by all pattern programs. This makes it easy to brief both small and large production facilities. If the collection is merely virtual, this pattern can easily be imported to all 3D programs such as CLO or Browsewear
